This past weekend we were fortunate to have a three day weekend due to "Foundation Day" (the day Japanese honor the beginning of the Imperial line and foundation of their country) and so my friend Phil and I took advantage and went on a short trip to Hiroshima. It was a nice, quick 2 day trip and we packed a good amount of sight seeing in! We arrived on Sunday afternoon and saw Hiroshima castle, the Peace Dome (the remains of the Prefectural Industrial Promotion Hall), Peace Park, and the newly erected Peace Gates (displaying the word 'peace' in over 49 different languages). Though the city is more on the quiet side in comparison to Kyoto, it is nonetheless a beautiful city worth visting. I wish we had been able to go into the museum, but our time was so short. Hopefully when my family comes to visit next year we will be able to tour the museum then.
