First...Happy Valentines Day!!!
Today I was teaching at my junior high school in Ohara (the northern area of Kyoto up in the mountains) which has a total of 25 students! This is one of my favorite schools as all the students are so "genki" (energetic) and sweet. They all try to communicate with me and always wear the biggest smiles! As it was Valentine's today all the girls made each of the male teachers a little Valentine's Day goodie bag full of chocolates, cakes, and other sweets. It was adorable because they all walked into the staff room in their shy way and presented each teacher with their gifts. During class I asked them if they made any chocolates for the boys in their class and they told my teacher, who translated for me, that they didn't because they want new boys! haha Let me remind you that the biggest class is 10 students and that they have all known one another since the age of 6!
Yesterday I found out that one of my ichinensei (1st yr) girls is really into hip hop dancing and performs regularly. Of course I was so excited because up until now the only sport that I knew my students at this particular jr. high were interested in was tennis! Her hair was actually all done up in braids on one side from her performance and she was telling me that she is going to perform this weekend in Osaka! I am very impressed as she is only 13 yrs old! Anyways, today she brought in her dance DVD for me to watch because I had told her I would love to see her perform! She is such a sweetheart (she is the one second in from the right in the bottom picture, wearing the black jacket with white stripes). Actually all the girls in the bottom picture (1st yrs) are incredibly sweet. They boys are nice as well, but very shy.
All in all, as you can probably tell, it was another good day of teaching up in the mountains of Kyoto.
